Bhoothnath Review

Bhoothnath Review !!!

Teaming two superstars [Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan] in your directorial debut is as good as impossible. Opting for a novel story -- the relationship between a spirit and a mortal -- is an equally big challenge. Really, it requires courage to make a film that defies the stereotype, yet is seeped in emotions that work with the Indian junta. Vivek Sharma's first outing Bhoothnath is a simple story, well told and that's why it works! Aimed at kids between 6 and 60, Bhoothnath relies on the belief that on the belief that has been passed on to us through generations: Aatma amar hain.

Let's get a few things straight at the very outset. Bhoothnath is not an eerie experience [it does have a few moments though]. It's more of a kiddie film with a strong undercurrent of emotions. In fact, the bonding between the spirit and the kid makes you smile, even laugh at times and most importantly, makes you moist-eyed at two vital points of this 2.08 hour film.

One of the prime reasons why Bhoothnath works, besides the above-mentioned reasons, is due to the right casting. The story rests on two shoulders -- the experienced [Bachchan] and the raw talent [Aman Siddiqui] -- and both shoulder the responsibility beautifully, both compliment each other wonderfully well and make it a must-see experience.

You forget most films the moment you step out of the cineplex. But there're films that remain etched in your memory for their simplicity. Bhoothnath is one of those films. Go for it!

For Vikas, this offer couldn't have come at a better time. He is going through a messy divorce with his wife Anjali (Shriya Saran) and needs to get away from the stress of it all.

So Vikas accepts Hussain's offer whole-heartedly. But little does he know that one decision will change his life forever.

Well settled into his new role, he decides to voice his plans to quit the channel and move on to newer pastures.

Kismat Konnection

Kismat Konnection did not connect with me. I am sure it may not connect with many Bollywood fans too, across the globe. What is the problem? Simple – Every thing is bad in this movie. Over acting, disconnected scenes, wrong cast for the roles, repulsive dress parade by Vidya Balan, un-pleasant song numbers and horrible direction by Mr A Mirza.

I must comment that it is high-time Shahid Kapoor creates his own style now. He can’t continue to behave and act like Shah Rukh Khan because he is not SRK. World has accepted the look, style and over-acting of SRK, so no room for second one in the Bollywood. It is recommended that Shahid should shed his chocolate look and come up with some thing original.

Now Viday Balan. What Can I say! Looks like she is the replacement of our Meena Kumari. Some how she always gives tired and elderly look on the screen. If it is not rude to comment, then she is a perfect BTM – Behanji turn modern. Is she? What was she thinking when she wore those out-dated dress? Through-out the movie, my husband reminded me that she was looking like Shahid’s mother. May be he is right. Her dressing sense proves the point without debate.

OK, some stuff on this movie ‘Kismat Konnection’. Well, the movie is all about Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor), who is an Architect in Canada. The director portrays him as a very smart student with tons of talent, achieving ‘Student of the Year Award’ for 3 times in row in his Architectural School. Real life turns out to be very tough for him. For last couple of years, he is running from pillar to post to get one decent job break, who once upon a time was sure to come on the cover page of TIME magazine. To shed his frustration and get some success, Raj takes help from a Psychic (Juhi Chawla as Ms Baanoo Jaan), who guides him to follow his ‘Lucky Charm’. Yes, she is Priya, our heroin in the film, Viday Balan. Raj and Priya hate each other in the beginning eventually to fall in love with each other. For rest, you have to see the movie, which I will never recommend.

I must admit that the movie moves at good pace and it is not a drag. Some of the scenes are good but I wonder, why would Producer waste the money by shooting this movie in Canada? As mentioned before, songs and music numbers are a huge disappointment as well as the Direction. Unless you are a great f an of young Shahid Kapoor and lady Viday Balan, you may avoid seeing this movie. I will rate ‘Kismat Konnection’ only 2 on 5 Stars.

Jodhaa Akbar

The movie Jodha Akbar directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. The roles of Jodha bhai and Akbar are played by Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan.Jodhaa Akbar is relationship shared between young Akbar and Jodhaa bhai.

Totally Jodhaa Akbar leaves you in fascination and makes the legendary characters come alive on the screen. Some instances that are splendid in the movie are the war sequence at the beginning, Hrithik taming an out of control elephant, two pre-condition set by jodhaa before her marriage, confrontation between IIa Arun and Ash at the kitchen when ash wants to make meal herself, the intermission point which sows the seeds of misunderstanding between Hritik and Ash, the sword fight between Ash and Hrithik….

Jodhaa Akbar on the whole is without a doubt a brilliant film and this historical movie has all that proves the first blockbuster

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam is a jewel of a film in many ways. Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit turn in a couple of really fine performances. Salman Khan, in spite of having a good chemistry with both Dixit and the other Khan, fails to excite me much, however. He was competent, but I felt that his musical numbers were an unwelcome intrusion into what is otherwise a very mature, realistic look at a married relationship. As in real relationships, it is often the little misunderstandings that fester until they threaten to destroy lives.

In this case, the husband Gopal (Shahrukh), although devotedly in love with his new bride Rhada (Madhuri) is self-centered and short-tempered, and misinterprets the fond affection she feels for her childhood friend Suraj (Salman) as romantic love. In their turn, Suraj and Rhada are too immature and blind to realize how their relationship is tormenting Gopal. Gopal, instead of being honest with Rhada and expressing his frustrations, remains silent until it is nearly too late to save the marriage.

I think this is one of the best performances of Shahrukh Khan's career. Not generally known for restrained performances, he shows here that in the hands of a competent director he is a wonderful actor with a huge range, he goes from subtle to frantic to silly without ever losing the honesty of the character. His performance as Gopal is mature and finely nuanced with a depth of layers not generally common to Hindi films. Madhuri is wonderful, as always.

The two Khans always share a good screen chemistry, in spite of Salman's stilted acting talents, and they share one really well-acted scene together when Gopal, nearly mad with frustration, presses a gun into Suraj's hand and invites Suraj to shoot him, shouting "Don't you know I die each day because of you?". It was different and making was also proffesional.
