Before we go into the story of the movie we shall have a surface level view on the people who have done an extra ordinary job in making this movie a grand success. The movie is directed and written by Abbas Tyrewala; produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan; and an excellent acting by Imran Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Prateek Babbar; Music by A R Rahman; cinematography by Manoj Lobo; distributed by Aamir Khan Productions and PVR Cinemas.
The movie includes eight different characters which are played by eight teenagers. Imran Khan plays the role of Jai Singh Rathore; Genelia D'Souza as Aditi Wadia; Manjari Fadnis as Meghna; Ayaz Khan as Sushant Modi; Karan Makhija as Rotlu; Sugandha Garg as Shaleen; Nirav Mehta as Jignesh 'Jiggy' Patel; Alishka Varde as Bombs.
The movie starts in the Mumbai International airport where Rotlu, Jiggy, Bombs and Shaleen decide to tell Mala (a character played by Renuka Kunzru), who gets very frustrated on waiting for their beloved friends, Jai and Aditi. Mala is the girl friend of Jiggy. But she does not like the way his friends behave to her. She thinks that every one of them is too boring and they are nothing but a bunch of losers. And when Shaleen understands this she decides to tell the story of Jai and Aditi and the others too accepted for this and they gets very excited except for Mala who was not aware of what she is about to hear.
Rotlu begins the story in Thar Desert in the middle of which a man covered completely in black sleeve would be riding on a horse and near him a table would be there upon which a landline telephone would be constantly ringing. And as the black knight approaches the phone and slashes his sword to cut the phone into two, Jai Singh Rathore wakes up with sweat gleaming all over his face and the telephone will be constantly ringing near him. Jai, a handsome young boy, son of Amar Singh Rathore and Savithri, is the most non-violent man in the world. He hates violence. Jai used to dream every night about the dark knight again and again.
Aditi is the daughter of 'Pumpkin' Wadia (Anuradha Patel) and 'Peachy' Wadia (Jayant Kriplani) and she has a brother named Amit Wadia (Pratiek Babbar). Aditi is a very beautiful girl and she dreams of getting a strong, young, muscular and handsome guy as her life partner while on the other hand, Jai is simply the opposite in this as he hates violence.
By the way they behave, everybody around them thinks that they both are in love. Everybody could feel the love existing between except for Aditi and Jai themselves.
Without having any knowledge that one cannot be happy without the other, those two decide to find a life partner for themselves and their friends too agreed to help for this.
So, one day they both go to a pub and there Jai falls in love with Meghna at his first site. They both fall in love with each other and everybody becomes very happy with it except Aditi. She begins to feel that Jai has gone away from her. And that is where she begins to feel her love for him. But she was not able to tell him since she thinks that she does not want to be an intruder in Jai`s life.
One day Meghna invites Jai to her house for dinner. That day happens to be Aditi`s birthday. Jai decides to finish his dinner as fast as possible and he plans to attend Aditi`s birthday party. But everything goes wrongly. Jai goes to Meghna`s house and there he has a tough having his dinner since Meghna`s father and mother lives a very false life with each other and that they don’t love each other at all. They hate each other so much that they abuse each other so violently and Jai does not like it. Jai becomes aware of Meghna`s situation and he knows that Meghna too lives a life of hell.
Having finished with his dinner, Jai goes to Aditi`s house and he finds that she has celebrated her birthday party with others. She goes very angry on him that she does not want to talk to him.
Jai`s life goes very absurd by the fact that Aditi has stopped talking with him. And that is where he starts to realize the fact that he is in love with Aditi. But things just does not go rightly for him.
One day Jai gets a call from Aditi and she tells him that she is going to get engaged. Without having any further conversation she cuts the call. Jai goes very sad on hearing this and he was not able to express his situation to his mother. He cries the whole night on his mother`s shoulders who understood that Jai loves Aditi.
The next day happens to be Jiggy`s birthday. And that night his house was full of music and entertainment. Aditi comes along with Sushant and Jai comes with Meghna. Both of them express their grievance with their eyes but they were not able to express them since they have chosen a fiancé for themselves and that too, wrongly.
While returning Meghna who became aware of this tells jai that they both should separate and that he has to go and live with Aditi who is the most exact pair for him. On hearing this Jai goes very awkward and he just begins to explain Meghna, who stops him abruptly and gives him a good-bye kiss and she leaves the place.
On the other hand Sushant who comes to know about this asks Aditi politely whether she loves Jai or not. When Aditi tells him that she is confused, Sushant shows her his real face and he hits her to the ground and he leaves the place.
Both Aditi and Jai are now lonely and they are not able to express their grievance to themselves. One day both Aditi and Jai meet on the sea shore where they used to be along with their friends. And that is where they both know about their broken up love. Jai comes to know about Sushant`s arrogant behavior on Aditi. He was not able to control himself. He goes very mad. He wanted to show Sushant a glimse of his anger.
So he goes to Sushant`s house and gives him punches in his head with all his anger. Sushant goes out of commission. That night he returns home and he quickly refreshes himself. At that time his mother who does not want Jai to be arrogant and wild sees his fore head injury which came during the fight with Sushant. She gets very sad, but Jai, who does not have time to explain this tells her that he has to leave and stop Aditi, who is actually about to leave to New York to continue with her higher studies there. But he was stopped by Inspector P.K. Waghmare (Paresh Rawal). He takes him to jail and there Jai meets his two cousin brothers Bhalu (Sohail Khan) and Bagheera (Arbaaz Khan) who tells Jai that actually the Rathore family are ruthless fighters who fights and dies for a right cause and that they tells him that Jai`s father Amar Singh Rathore actually died fighting 10 people at a single time which Jai took by surprise since he was told by his mother that Amar Singh Rathore died while trying to stop two groups from fighting. Jai was also very surprised to hear that as a Rathore he has to fulfill three things in his life and those are 1.) Beating up someone 2.) Getting arrested 3.) Riding a horse. Out of those three Jai has already fulfilled the first two of them and he became aware of what he exactly has to do. He asks his brothers to help him escape out of jail so that he could stop Aditi from leaving to New York. Bhalu and Bagheera helps him to get out of Jail by just threatening Waghmare and Jai leaves for the airport in one of Bhalu and Bagheera`s horses. He rides so fast that he reaches the airport in time and he runs very fast to the waiting area. He dodges the security since that would surely consume him time which he did not want to lose. The security alerts the entire police man around that area. A terrorist alarm begins and Jai gets chased by many police man. He almost reaches the departing place and he shouts Aditi`s name and he starts to sing his song `Jaane to nay a Jaane na` . The police surround him and they aim at him with their rifles. But then after hearing what Jai sings, they drop their guard. From the middle of the crowd Aditi comes and she hugs Jai. And they both leave the airport together. They get married and they go abroad for Honeymoon. And they return back after several days and they get greeted by their friends who would be waiting for them in the airport telling Mala their love story. And that is how the story ends.
The movie conveys several messages. And the most important one among them is that, we would never feel the love of a person when ever they are with us. But the worst part is that we could feel it and we would need it so badly only when they get away from us.
An awesome movie to see and an excellent work done by every technician and thus providing a nice and superb entertainment.
